Instructions for how to complete your initial assessments are available here.
Within your enrolment form, you’ll need to complete an Initial Assessment in English and maths. It’s important for you to complete the Initial Assessments before you have your enrolment meeting with your coach as they will help your coach to assess if you require any further support with your learning journey. You need to complete the Initial Assessments even if you have qualifications in English and maths.
If you have a learning support need – is there any flexibility in the Initial Assessment entry requirement?
Yes – if this is the case then please discuss this with your coach. We will approach this on a case-by-case basis.
The aim is to achieve level 2. You can also join the programme if you score level 1.
If you score Entry Level, then you can take the initial assessment/s a second time. If you score Entry Level a second time, then you will discuss your eligibility for the programme with your coach.
No - you do not need to provide evidence of your GCSE grades to join the programme.
However, you will be asked on your enrolment form if you have achieved GCSEs (grades A* - C), A-levels or equivalent, or higher qualifications in English/ maths.
If you haven’t achieved these qualifications, you will have the option to take Functional Skills Training in English/ maths, (with your employer's agreement).
Note - If you already hold GCSEs or equivalent qualifications, you aren’t eligible to receive funding for Functional Skills, as the government doesn’t provide funding for qualifications that have already been achieved.
Functional Skills level 2 in English and maths are qualifications that are nationally recognised as equivalent to GCSE grade 4/ C.
During your enrolment meeting, if you are eligible, you will be asked whether you want to opt-in to complete Functional Skills level 2 in English/ maths. If you want to opt-in then you and your line manager must both agree, and both agree that you will complete functional skills during normal working hours.
If you choose to opt-in to Functional Skills, then the outcome of this has no impact on your apprenticeship. If you choose to complete Functional Skills then you must sit the final exam/s at least once.
If you pass the Functional Skills exams then you will achieve a nationally recognised qualification.
